Toronto, ON - Corkin Gallery presents new works by Christian Butterfield. Characterized by a tactile and sculptural use of paint, the Apology Flowers began as tokens of apologies to friends, lovers, or acquaintances. The collage element of the paintings include media content relating to the cultural, social and political climate of the times.

The landscape works are otherworldly, verging on the surreal. His use of pigment and colour is in service to his comment on contemporary life.

At the intersection of painting and mass media, Butterfield's work is situated within an abstract aesthetic. Largely self-taught, Butterfield won the Akin Studio Program which carried a residency at MOCA, Toronto in 2018. HIs second solo exhibition at Corkin Gallery opens Nov. 23, 2024.
