Toronto, ON - Corkin Gallery presents Christian Butterfield - Apricity.
Christian Butterfield's innate skill in the application of paint takes full force here. The paintings are lusciously tactile. In these recent works, landscapes appear otherworldly. They are titillating. One can get lost in a Butterfield bush. Two large-scale works engage with playful figures, revealing a new dimension.
Titled Apricity, the paintings gathered here offer the ambiance of apricity - the warmth of the sun in winter.
Largely self-taught, Butterfield won the Akin Studio Program which carried a residency at MOCA, Toronto in 2018. His second solo exhibition at Corkin Gallery opens Nov. 23, 2024.
