Between Life and Light: 45th Anniversary Photography Show

2 November - 21 December 2024
Overview

The University of Toronto is honouring Jane Corkin with an Honorary Doctorate of Laws in recognition of her excellence in the arts as a visionary gallerist, pioneering interpreter of photography as fine art, and as an influential advocate for Canadian artists.

The Department of Art History invited international scholars to speak at a two-day photography symposium. In conjunction with this event, Corkin Gallery presents   Between Life and Light, an exhibition of 95 iconic photographs to celebrate our 45th anniversary.

Collector Stephen Brown selected works from the collection for this occasion. Dr. Brown writes:

"The exhibition at Corkin Gallery is comprised of iconic works spanning the history of photography. Examples such as Margaret Watkins, Domestic Symphony from 1919 to over 100 years later, Michelle Forsyth, Grips, from 2023, tell a story for you to discover. Who are those young lovers in a Nan Goldin photograph and who was Barbara Astman typing a message to - there are endless questions to imagine and find the answers to."
